Lightning Sign Admirals Forward Pierre-Cedric Labrie

TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have signed forward Pierre-Cedric Labrie ("PEE-air SEHD-rihk lah-BREE") to a two-year, two-way contract, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced today. Labrie has been assigned to the Admirals.

Labrie, 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, has appeared in 28 games for the Admirals this season, recording six goals and 18 points with a plus-15 rating and 63 penalty minutes. Labrie is sixth in points, ranks third in plus/minus and leads Norfolk in penalty minutes in 2011-12. He is also tied for sixth in the AHL in plus/minus.

A 25-year-old native of Baie-Comeau, Québec, Labrie was originally signed to a Professional Tryout Contract with the Admirals on October 13, 2010. He then signed a two-year AHL Standard Player's Contract with Norfolk on December 8, 2010. In 92 games with Norfolk over the past two seasons, Labrie has recorded 13 goals and 44 points with 211 penalty minutes.

A fifth-year professional, Labrie has appeared in 283 career AHL games between Norfolk, the Peoria Rivermen and the Manitoba Moose. In those games, he has scored 31 goals and 84 points with 483 penalty minutes.

An undrafted forward, Labrie was originally signed by the Vancouver Canucks on July 9, 2007. Vancouver traded him to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Yan Stastny on March 3, 2010.

Prior to turning pro, Labrie spent one season with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League, posting 35 goals and 63 points with 113 penalty minutes in 68 regular season games. He then posted eight goals and 14 points with 35 penalty minutes in only 11 playoff games.
