NORFOLK, VA – The Norfolk Admirals and Susan G. Komen for the Cure will hold “Pink in the Rink” at the Admirals game at Norfolk Scope on January 17th, 2009. The event will seek to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer while also raising monies for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Events leading up to and during the game include a breast cancer informational session, survivor participation during game night, “Hockey 101- A Clinic for Women” and a silent auction for player-autographed Tampa Bay Lightning merchandise. Even the ice will be pink!
Educating women and men about the importance of early breast cancer detection is one of the primary goals of the event. Recent polls have shown that most women are unaware of the causes of or risks for breast cancer. Game attendees will learn about local programs, support groups and how they can decrease their risk.
Special $12 Red Level Tickets will be available for groups of 10 or more people. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Tickets for groups of 10 or more people may be ordered by calling the Admirals at (757) 640-1212.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available through the Admirals’ offices by calling (757) 640-1212.
The “Hockey 101- A Clinic for Women” will be held starting at 6:15 p.m. To ensure adequate seating, anyone who is planning on attending the clinic should RSVP in advance by calling (757) 640-1212.
During the game, we will honor individuals who have battled breast cancer on our video board system. If you would like to have your name or the name of a friend or loved one displayed on the Admirals video boards, please click here to fill out a form no later than 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 17. Names submitted after this deadline cannot be displayed. We are asking for a minimum $1 donation per name submitted with all proceeds going to the Tidewater Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
