Hershey Leaves Bitter Taste in Admirals’ Mouths

NORFOLK, VA – Grant Potulny and Blair Jones each had a goal and an assist and Jay Rosehill picked up a pair of assists. However, the Norfolk Admirals (16-21-2-4) fell to the Hershey Bears (31-12-0-2) 6-2 on Wednesday night at Norfolk Scope Arena.

The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 with three goals late in the opening period. Graham Mink gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage at 16: 37 by backhanding a Keith Aucoin feed from behind the net through the legs of Norfolk netminder Karri Ramo. Patrick McNeill doubled the Hershey lead by batting a Quintin Laing shot out of mid-air from the low slot at 17:24. Then with just 1.2 seconds remaining, Kyle Wilson redirected a Dean Arsene pass from the slot into the net.

The Admirals answered back with a pair of goals in the first half of the second period. Jay Rosehill stole the puck from a Hershey defender in the left corner and quickly centered a pass to the slot where a waiting Grant Potulny scored with a quick tap-in at 3:02.

Just over three minutes later, Potulny stole the puck from a Hershey defender just inside the Bears blue line and got it to Blair Jones. Jones’ initial shot hit the post, but he buried his second attempt behind Hershey goaltender Daren Machesney at 6:23.

However, the Bears restored their two-goal lead three minutes later on the power play. Alexandre Giroux sent a pass from the right point to Keith Aucoin near the bottom of the left circle and Aucoin shot it past Ramo at 9:35.

Chris Bourque made it 5-2 with a wrist shot from the right half-wall at 6:01 of the final frame. Wilson closed out scoring by deflecting a Quintin Laing shot for a power play goal at 9:26.

Karri Ramo (34 shots, 28 saves) took the loss. Daren Machesney (47 shots, 45 saves) earned the win.

Norfolk was 0-3 on the power play. Hershey was 1-4.
