FNORFOLK, Va. Ė Norfolk Admirals General Manager Mike Butters announced today that five players have been signed to tryout agreements. Defenseman Mike Knight, forward Andrew Sarauer and forward Mike Sgroi have been signed to Professional Tryout Contracts (PTOs) while goaltender Doug Raeder and forward Mason Graddock have been signed to Amateur Tryout Contracts (ATOs).
Knight, 24, is a 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman out of Toronto, Ontario. He had appeared in 44 games with the ECHLís Johnstown Chiefs, recording four goals and 25 points with 103 penalty minutes. He also skated in two contests with the AHLís Lake Erie Monsters this season and was scoreless with a pair of penalty minutes. In eight career AHL games with Lake Erie, Rockford and Binghamton, the blueliner has yet to record a point and has ten penalty minutes.
A fourth-year professional, Knight has played 155 ECHL games between Johnstown, Greenville and Toledo, tallying 22 goals and 85 points with 321 penalty minutes. He has also played in 26 Kelly Cup Playoff games, recording one goal and 15 points with 46 penalty minutes.
Sarauer, 24, is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound forward out of Outlook, Saskatchewan. The professional rookie has appeared in 49 games with Johnstown this season, recording 19 goals and 46 points with 71 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 15 games with the AHLís Lake Erie Monsters this season, recording one goal and two points with eight penalty minutes.
Sarauer was a 2004 fourth-round draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks (125th overall). He appeared in 112 games over an eight-year career at Northern Michigan University, netting 13 goals and 31 points. He also appeared in one season of junior hockey with the BCHLís Langley Hornets, scoring 43 goals and 75 points in just 57 games.
Sgroi, 30, is a 6-foot-5, 230-pound native of Toronto, Ontario. Sgroi comes to Norfolk from the Elmira Jackals, although he has split the season among three ECHL and two AHL teams. In 30 ECHL games between Elmira, Utah and Johnstown, he has 12 goals and 20 points with 86 penalty minutes. In four AHL games with Syracuse and Binghamton, he has a goal and 14 penalty minutes.
The ninth-year professional is a veteran of 193 career American Hockey League contests between Syracuse, Binghamton, Albany, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Utah and Chicago. In his AHL career, he has 13 goals, 23 points and 596 penalty minutes. He also has 59 goals and 113 points with 777 penalty minutes in 201 career ECHL games and one assist and 26 penalty minutes in 26 career Kelly Cup Playoff games.
Raeder, 22, is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound goaltender out of Needham, Massachusetts. He recently completed his collegiate hockey career at Middlebury College in Vermont. The senior went 7-6-1 with a 2.44 goals-against average and .897 save percentage this season. In his collegiate career, Raeder went 38-13-2 with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. He was the winning goaltender in the 2006 NCAA Division III Championship game.
Graddock, 22, is a 5-foot-7, 170-pound forward out of Stowe, Vermont. He also recently completed his collegiate career at Middlebury College. The senior served as co-captain at Middlebury this season, posting 14 goals and 23 points with 12 penalty minutes in 27 games. In 108 career games, Graddock posted 25 goals and 44 points with 52 penalty minutes.
The Admirals will continue a season-ending four-game road trip tonight against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
