Leading Scorer Brandon Bochenski Returns to Admirals

TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning, the NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have reassigned Admirals leading scorer Brandon Bochenski to the Admirals, Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced today. Bochenski’s next goal with the Admirals will establish a new AHL Admirals career goal scoring record.

Bochenski, a 27-year-old, 6-foot-1, 187-pound right wing out of Blaine, Minnesota, appeared in 12 games with the Lightning after being called up on January 2. He registered one goal and five points during the recall.

The sixth-year pro remains the Admirals’ season leader or co-leader in goals, points, power play goals and game-winning goals despite missing the last 21 games while on NHL recall. Bochenski had appeared in all 35 games for Norfolk prior to the recall and registered 16 goals and 32 points. He also had six power play goals, four game-winning goals and an even plus-minus rating. At the time of his recall, Bochenski ranked among the American Hockey League leaders in goals (T-2nd), points (T-11th), power play goals (T-10th) and game-winning goals (T-2nd).

On December 29, Bochenski scored his 76th career Admirals goal while playing against the Hershey Bears at Norfolk Scope Arena, tying him with Casey Hankinson for the most career goals in AHL Admirals history. In 139 career games as an Admiral, Bochenski has 76 goals and 75 assists for 151 points. He ranks fifth in points, seventh in assists, first in power play goals (33) and first in game-winning goals (15) in AHL Admirals history.

Bochenski also holds the record for most goals in a single AHL Admirals game (4, 11/25/06 vs. Philadelphia), co-owns the record for most assists in a single game (4, 11/18/06 vs. Binghamton) and co-owns the record for longest point streak in AHL Admirals history (14 games from 11/12/06 – 12/27/06).

In 249 career AHL games between the Admirals, Providence Bruins and Binghamton Senators, Bochenski has 133 goals and 268 points. Bochenski was named a starter to the 2010 AHL All-Star Classic but was unable to attend due to the recall. It was the third time Bochenski had been named an AHL All-Star. He played his first AHL All-Star Classic as a rookie with Binghamton in 2005 and was named a starter for the 2007 Classic during his first stint with the Admirals but did not play due to injury.

Bochenski has appeared in 140 career NHL games between the Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Nashville Predators, Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators, scoring 25 goals and 35 assists for 60 points. Bochenski was signed by the Lightning to a two-year contract on July 8, 2008. He was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the seventh round (223rd overall) in 2001.

The Admirals will visit Hartford, Connecticut, on Wednesday for their last 2009-10 regular season game against the Wolf Pack. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
