Admirals Goalie Jaroslav Janus Recalled by Lightning


TAMPA BAY, Fla. Ė The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have recalled goaltender Jaroslav Janus from the Admirals, Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced today. Janus will practice with the Lightning while Antero Niittymaki participates in the Vancouver Olympics for Finland.

Janus, a 5-foot-11, 192-pound goaltender from Presov, Slovakia, has appeared in 12 games for the Admirals this season, posting a 6-6-0 record with one shutout, a 2.09 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. He is on a four-game winning-streak and has won six of his last seven games, going 6-1-0 with a 1.98 GAA and .922 save percentage in his last seven games.

Janus began the season by appearing in his first two professional games with the Admirals on a Professional Tryout Contract. He made his pro debut on October 14 at Albany, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a 3-1 setback.

Janus was released from his Professional Tryout Contract on November 4 and joined his junior club, the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. Janus appeared in 13 games with the Otters this season posting a 7-4-2 record with a 2.81 goals-against average and .918 save percentage before being signed by the Lightning to an NHL contract on January 1. Tampa Bay drafted Janus in the sixth round (162nd overall) of last summerís NHL Entry Draft.

Last season, Janus posted a 25-20-3 record with a 3.24 goals-against average in 49 games with Erie. He led the Otters in games played, wins, shutouts with three and save percentage at .908. He also played in five playoff games with Erie, posting a shutout and a 1-4-0 record.

Janus has played in 110 career OHL games, posting a 45-53-7 record with a 3.69 goals-against average.

Janus played well at the 2009 World Junior Championships with Team Slovakia. He posted a 3-4-0 record with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage in seven games. He was named the tournamentís top goaltender by attending media.

The Admirals will begin a five-game road trip tonight in Binghamton against the Senators. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
