Janus Returns to Admirals; Parrish Recalled

TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Admirals, have reassigned goaltender Jaroslav Janus to the Admirals and have recalled forward Mark Parrish from the Admirals, Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced today.

In addition, the Admirals have released goaltender Matt Lundin from his Professional Tryout Contract (PTO).

Janus, a 5-foot-11, 192-pound goaltender from Presov, Slovakia, was recalled by the Lightning on Wednesday last week and practiced with the Lightning while goaltender Antero Niittymaki participated in the Olympics for Team Finland.

Janus has appeared in 12 games for the Admirals this season, posting a 6-6-0 record with one shutout, a 2.09 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. He is on a four-game winning-streak and has won six of his last seven games, going 6-1-0 with a 1.98 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in his last seven games.

Janus began the season by appearing in his first two professional games with the Admirals on a Professional Tryout Contract. He was released from his Professional Tryout Contract on November 4 and joined his junior club, the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. Janus appeared in 13 games with the Otters, posting a 7-4-2 record with a 2.81 goals-against average and .918 save percentage before being signed by the Lightning to an NHL contract on January 1 and being assigned to Norfolk. Tampa Bay drafted Janus in the sixth round (162nd overall) of last summer’s NHL Entry Draft.

Parrish, 33, is a 5-foot-11, 200-pound forward from Bloomington, Minnesota. In 51 games with the Admirals, Parrish has 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points and a plus-4 rating. He leads the team in assists and game-winning goals (5), is second on the club in points and is fourth in goals. After beginning the season on a Professional Tryout Contract with the Admirals, Parrish was signed to an NHL contract by Tampa Bay on February 8.

A veteran of ten National Hockey League seasons, Parrish has appeared in 705 career NHL games between the Lightning, Florida Panthers, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars, recording 216 goals and 169 assists in those games. He made his Lightning debut on February 14 at the New York Rangers. Parrish, who appeared in the 2002 NHL All-Star Game, was originally a third round draft pick (79th overall) of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

Parrish appeared in 44 NHL games last season with the Stars, recording eight goals and five assists. Parrish has only appeared in 57 career AHL games between the Admirals, Sound Tigers and the Beast of New Haven, scoring 18 goals and 39 points.

Lundin, 23, is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound goaltender from Apple Valley, Minnesota. He was signed by the Admirals to a PTO on Wednesday last week and served as the backup goaltender for Norfolk in four games. He will return to the IHL’s Muskegeon Lumberjacks where has appeared in 24 games this season, posting a 16-5-1 record with a 2.82 goals-against average and .906 save percentage.
