AHL Releases Division Alignment

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced that the league will operate with an all-time high of 30 active teams in 2010-11, which will also mark the AHL’s historic 75th season.

The Admirals will remain in the East Division of the Eastern Conference for the eighth consecutive season. The division has seen two changes this off-season. First, the Carolina Hurricanes have moved their AHL affiliation from Albany, New York, to Charlotte, North Carolina with the Charlotte Checkers. In addition, the New Jersey Devils have moved their AHL affiliation from Lowell, Massachusetts, to Albany, New York, with the Albany Devils. These changes will see the East Division grow from seven to eight teams in 2010-11. The Adirondack Phantoms, Binghamton Senators, Hershey Bears, Syracuse Crunch and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will remain with the Admirals in the East Division.

All 30 National Hockey League teams will have their own primary affiliate playing in the AHL next fall. The league’s Board of Governors has approved the following conference and division alignment for 2010-11 (NHL affiliates in parentheses):
