Admirals Take Five on the Road

NORFOLK, VA – After splitting a weekend home-and-home series against the Charlotte Checkers last week, the Admirals embarked on a five-game road trip beginning with four games in five days this week.

The two games against the Checkers were the first of twelve regular season matchups. On Friday night in Charlotte, the Admirals claimed a 3-2 victory as Cedrick Desjardins blanked the Checkers on all five shootout attempts and Marc-Antoine Pouliot scored the lone shootout goal. Despite putting 42 shots on goal, Alex Berry was the only Admiral to find the back of the net on Saturday as the Admirals fell to the Checkers at Scope 3-1.

The Admirals have four games in a five-night span this week beginning tomorrow night in Albany. After getting some rest on Thursday, the team will play in Adirondack Friday, Bridgeport Saturday and Worcester Sunday.

At 6-3-1-1 (14 points), the Admirals are currently third in the American Hockey League’s East Division. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 10-1-0-0 (20 points) hold the top place in the division. The Charlotte Checkers are in second place with a record of 6-6-1-2 (15 points). The Binghamton Senators are in fourth place at 6-4-1-1 (14 points). The Hershey Bears at 6-4-0-1 (13 points) are tied for fifth place with the Syracuse Crunch (5-4-1-2, 13 points). In seventh place are the Albany Devils at 6-5-0-0 (12 points) followed by the Adirondack Phantoms in eighth place at 2-10-1-0 (5 points). Click here for the complete, up-to-the-minute AHL standings.
