Lightning Re-Assign Forward Alex Hutchings to Admirals from ECHL’s Florida Everblades
TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have reassigned forward Alex Hutchings to the Admirals from the ECHL's Florida Everblades, Admirals General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today.
Hutchings, a 5-foot-10, 173-pound left wing from Burlington, Ontario, appeared in one game with the Admirals during the regular season and was scoreless with a +1 rating and two shots on goal. The 20-year-old rookie made his professional debut on October 9 at Binghamton. He then joined the Everblades, where he posted 13 goals and 26 points in 51 regular season games. Hutchings also scored one goal and three points as the Everblades fell to the Kalamazoo Wings in the first round of the ECHL’s 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs. He ranked second in points with the Everblades in the playoffs.
Hutchings played in 68 games with the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League last season, recording 47 goals and 81 points. He ranked second on the Colts in goals and points. Hutchings was tied for fourth in the OHL for goals in 2009-10. His plus-44 rating was also third on the team. Hutchings played in 13 playoff games with Barrie last season, notching two goals and 10 points.
Hutchings played in 229 career OHL games, all with the Colts, registering 111 goals and 208 points. During the 2008-09 season he led the Colts in goals with 34, assists with 34, points with 68 and plus/minus with a plus-27. He also led Barrie with 29 goals and 54 points in 2007-08.
Hutchings was named to the OHL Eastern Conference All-Star Team during both the 2008-09 and 2007-08 seasons. He was drafted by the Lightning in the fourth round, 93rd overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
The Admirals are currently in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to open the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs.
