Lightning Assign Forward Mattias Ritola to Admirals
TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have assigned forward Mattias Ritola to the Admirals, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced today.
Ritola, 6-foot, 192 pounds, excelled in limited time in Norfolk last season, posting nine goals and 27 points in only 17 games. His 1.59 points per game average led all Admirals. He also posted one goal and five points in four Calder Cup Playoff games with the Admirals last season, ranking second in points and tying for the team lead in assists in the post-season.
Ritola has played in five games with the Lightning this season, recording 14 shots on goal while averaging 10:50 in ice time per game. He had season-highs for shots on goal with eight and time on ice with 15:11 on October 13 at the New York Islanders. Last season, Ritola appeared in a career-high 31 NHL games with Tampa Bay, posting four goals and eight points. In 43 career NHL games between the Lightning and Detroit Red Wings, Ritola has scored four goals and nine points. He has also appeared in two career Stanley Cup Playoff games – one with Tampa Bay last season and one with Detroit in 2010.
A native of Borlange, Sweden, Ritola is a veteran of 228 AHL games with Norfolk and the Grand Rapids Griffins. He has amassed 50 goals and 133 points during his AHL career. Ritola has played in 12 career Calder Cup Playoff games, recording a goal and seven points.
Ritola was claimed off waivers by the Lightning from Detroit on October 5, 2010. He was drafted by the Red Wings in the fourth round, 103rd overall, of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
