Admirals Begin Three-Game Homestand Before All-Star Break

NORFOLK, Va. – After wrapping up a three-game road trip with two wins last week, the Norfolk Admirals return to Scope for a three-game homestand beginning tonight against the Charlotte Checkers.

Norfolk dropped the puck on the road trip last Wednesday in Albany, where they scored four goals in the second period to defeat the Devils, 5-4. The Admirals traveled to Syracuse on Friday night, where their attempt at a second-consecutive comeback fell short, as they dropped a 6-3 decision to the Crunch. On Saturday night, Mike Kostka and Richard Panik scored in the shootout to give the Admirals a 5-4 victory and a winning road trip.

The Admirals will return to Scope for a three-game homestand before hitting the All-Star Break on Sunday. Tonight, the Admirals and Checkers square off in the fifth game for the GEICO Challenge Cup. The Admirals then return to the ice on Friday and Saturday nights as they welcome in their East Division rivals, the Hershey Bears, for a pair of games.

After 42 games, the Admirals (25-14-1-2, 53 points) occupy third place in the East Division, two points behind the division leaders. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (25-12-1-4) and Hershey (24-11-4-3) are tied for first place in the division, both with 55 points. The Syracuse Crunch (18-17-3-2, 41 points) are in fourth place while the Binghamton Senators (18-24-1-1, 38 points) wrap-up the division standings. Norfolk ranks fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, but trails the conference-leading Penguins and Bears by only two points. Click here for complete AHL standings.
