Four Admirals Return to Norfolk from Anaheim; Defenseman Sami Vatanen Recalled by Ducks
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, announced today that forwards Emerson Etem and Patrick Maroon, defenseman Nate Guenin and goaltender Jeff Deslauriers have been assigned to the Admirals while defenseman Sami Vatanen has been recalled to Anaheim.
Etem, 6-foot-0, 202 pounds, has appeared in 34 games for the Admirals this season, posting nine goals and 10 points with 12 penalty minutes and a -1 plus/minus rating. The 20-year-old native of Long Beach, California, was selected by Anaheim in the first round (29th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Guenin, 6-foot-3, 207 pounds, has appeared in 30 games with the Admirals this season, posting two goals and 10 points with 12 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating while serving as Norfolk’s captain. The 30-year-old native of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, was acquired by Anaheim from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Trevor Smith on January 4, 2011.
Maroon, 6-foot-3, 231 pounds, has appeared in 34 games with the Admirals this season, recording 11 goals and 22 points with 98 penalty minutes and a -3 plus/minus rating. Maroon leads the Admirals in penalty minutes and game-winning goals (3), is tied for the team lead with seven power play goals and ranks third in goals and points. The 24-year-old native of St. Louis, Missouri, was acquired by Anaheim from Philadelphia along with David Laliberte in exchange for Danny Syvret and Rob Bordson on November 21, 2010.
Deslauriers, 6-foot-4, 201-pounds, had previously been in Norfolk on a Professional Tryout Contract with the Admirals from January 1-8, but did not appear in a game. He has appeared in 62 career NHL games between the Anaheim and the Edmonton Oilers, posting a 23-32-4 record with three shutouts, a 3.24 goals-against average (GAA) and .901 save percentage (SV%). A 28-year-old native of St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Deslauriers has appeared in 188 career American Hockey League games between Syracuse, Oklahoma City, Springfield, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Hamilton and Edmonton. The ninth-year pro has posted an 82-81-14 record with seven shutouts, a 2.88 GAA and .904 SV%. Originally selected by Edmonton in the second round (31st overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Deslauriers signed a two-year contract with Anaheim on July 9, 2011.
Vatanen, 5-foot-10, 185 pounds, has appeared in 32 games for Norfolk in 2012-13, scoring four goals and 21 points with 30 penalty minutes and a -3 rating. He leads all club defensemen in goals, assists and points, and leads all club rookies in assists and points. The 21-year-old native of Jyväskylä, Finland, was selected by Anaheim in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
