23 Former Admirals Featured in Thursday's Anaheim-Tampa Bay NHL Matchup


NORFOLK, VA -- A total of 23 former Admirals (19 players, 4 staff), will go head-to-head Thursday evening when the Anaheim Ducks battle the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

The Admirals are currently in their second season as the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks. Anaheim currently has a total of 11 former Admirals players on its roster heading into tonight's game. A full listing of those players is listed below with number of games played in an Admirals uniform, and the years played:

Devante Smith-Pelly, LW (71 games, 2012-13)
Pat Maroon, RW (64 games, 2012-13)
Sami Vatanen, D (63 games, 2012-13)
Emerson Etem, C (45 games, 2012-13)
Frederik Andersen, G (49 games, 2012-13)
Hampus Lindholm, D (44 games, 2012-13)
Kyle Palmieri, RW (33 games, 2012-13)
Rickard Rakell, C (11 games, 2013)
Ben Lovejoy, D (5 games, 2006-07)
Viktor Fasth. G (4 games, 2013)
Luca Sbisa, D (2 games, 2013)

In addition, the Ducks have two staff members in their hockey operations department that have ties to the Admirals. Assistant Coach Bob Woods played for the Hampton Roads Admirals of the ECHL during the 1995-96 season, while Joe Huff served as Norfolk's head athletic trainer last season, and was promoted to the same position with the Ducks this past summer.

The Admirals served as the Tampa Bay Lightning's AHL affiliate from 2007-2012. Tampa's roster currently features eight players on its roster (listed below):

Tampa Bay is coached by Jon Cooper, who helped lead Norfolk to its first Calder Cup Championship in 2012. Cooper coached the Admirals for two seasons from 2010-2012, compiling a record of 94-44-18. Tampa's video coordinator Brian Garlock spent the 2011-12 season with the Admirals in a similar role.

Anaheim (15-4-1, 31pts) and Tampa Bay (13-5-0, 26pts) enter tonight's game both leading their respective conferences. Thursday's game is slated for 7:30 p.m.

The Admirals return home for a pair of games against the Portland Pirates on Nov. 22 & 23. The Nov. 22 game is Military Appreciation Night; All military personnel may purchase tickets for $11 when they present their valid Military I.D. to the Scope Box Office. The first of three Admirals trading card sets will be given away on this night as well
