Anaheim Announces Roster Moves: Admirals Sign Collins to PTO
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced Thursday that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned center David Steckel and defensemen Alex Grant and Nolan Yonkman to the Norfolk Admirals, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In addition, the Admirals have signed forward Chris Collins to a PTO contract.
Grant, 24, scored two goals and a +3 rating in two games with the Ducks. He scored two goals on just two shots taken following his December 29 recall. The 6-3, 203-pound blueliner has posted 12 points (6g, 6a) in 19 games played this season with Norfolk. The Antigonish, Nova Scotia native was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fourth-round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Grant was acquired by Anaheim in a trade with Pittsburgh on June 24, 2013. Grant has now appeared in 200 professional games totaling 108 career points in stints with Norfolk, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL), Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), and now Anaheim. He also had a very successful QMJHL career with Saint John and Shawinigan.
Steckel, 31, went scoreless in four games with Anaheim during his recent recall on November 29. Steckel has totaled 79 points (33g. 46a) in 422 NHL games split between stints with Washington, New Jersey, Toronto, and Anaheim. The 6-6, 215-pound center appeared in 21 games with the Ducks last season posting six points (1g, 6a). Steckel appeared in all seven of Anaheim’s Conference Quarterfinal contests vs. Detroit last season, collecting two points. The 2001 first round (30th overall) draft selection of Los Angeles has registered six points (3g, 3a) with a +3 rating this season in 17 games split between Norfolk (13) and Iowa (4).
Yonkman,33, did not appear for the Ducks following his December 11 recall. Yonkman has logged an assist in two games played with Anaheim this season. The 6-6, 253-pound blueliner has posted four assists, 33 penalty minutes, and a +1 rating in 20 games with the Admirals this season. The Punnichy, Saskatoon native has totaled ten points (1g, 9a) and a 140 penalty minutes in 76 career NHL games split between Anaheim, Florida, Phoenix, and Washington. Yonkman was selected by the Washington Capitals in the second round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
Collins, 29, joins the Admirals after posting 11 points in 19 games played with the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. Last season, the 5-8, 185-pound winger logged four points (1g, 3a) in 24 AHL appearances split between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (20 games) and Springfield (4 games). Collins has appeared in 190 career AHL contests registering 81 points (38g, 43a). The Fairport, New York native played collegiately at Boston College for four seasons, which included a 63-point (34g, 29a) season in 2005-06.
The Admirals play host to the Springfield Falcons on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14. The Annual Toy Toss is set for Friday's game. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal or toy to the game and throw it onto the ice when the Admirals score their first goal. All of the stuffed toys will be rounded up by the Marine Corps for the Toys for Tots and distributed to local children for the holidays.
