NORFOLK, VA. – The Norfolk Admirals, proud new ECHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators, named Peter Sidorkiewicz their new assistant coach on Tuesday.
Sidorkiewicz, 54, joins the Admirals with 17 years of coaching experience, along with 14 years as a professional player.
Most recently, the native of Poland served as an assistant coach for Dornbirner EC, a top tier club in Austria. Prior to his tenure there, Sidorkiewicz spent 14 years with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Robbie (Ftorek) once again,” the newest Admirals staff member said. “When I was finishing up my playing career in the American Hockey League I played for him in Albany and then I enjoyed working with him in Erie so having the opportunity to coach alongside him once again was an easy decision to make.”
Sidorkiewicz played 246 games as a goaltender in the National Hockey League, coming over the course of eight seasons with the Hartford Whalers, New Jersey Devils and Ottawa Senators.
“This is my first North American pro coaching job but I’ve been working with a similar level of players in Austria, so I feel comfortable that the skills will translate,” Sidorkiewicz said. “At the end of the day our job, as coaches, is to help the guys get better every day. I’m looking forward to getting to know them and making that happen.”
The Admirals will kick off their 2017-18 campaign in October, with the home opener coming on Friday the 27th against the South Carolina Stingrays.
Season memberships are on sale now and start as low $500 for 36 games at Norfolk Scope Arena. Memberships can be purchased by contacting the Admirals at 757-640-1212 or on norfolkadmirals.com.
