NORFOLK, VA – The Norfolk Admirals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, have agreed to terms with defensemen Gabriel Verpaelst,Head Coach Rod Aldoff announced on Tuesday. Standing at 6’0” – 195 lbs., the Sherbrooke, Quebec native returns to Norfolk after putting up 34 points in 57 games with the team last season. Additionally known for his willingness to drop the gloves, Verpaelst compiled 162 penalty minutes on top of a brief stint with the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League. “Gabriel had an all-around great season last year and having him back is really big for us. He’s the type of player who plays with his heart and soul every single night, something I’d love to see more of our men do this season,” Aldoff said of the young left-handed shot. Verpaelst spent four years with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before turning pro at the starting of the 2014 season with the Bakersfield Condors. “Another thing that makes Gabriel so dangerous is the amount of confidence he gained last year. I truly believe he’s only going to take that, build off of it, and have a very successful season once again.” Aldoff concluded with. The Admirals begin the 2016-17 season on Friday, October 14 against the Kalamazoo Wings at the Norfolk Scope. Ticket plans are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 757-640-1212.
