Spink Twins Work Magic In Overtime To Defeat Admirals

NORFOLK, VA. - The Norfolk Admirals (1-4-1-0) fell to the Toledo Walleye (5-1-0-0) 3-2 in overtime on Friday night thanks to the Spink twins providing the Walleye with the game-winner. It didn't take long for the Admirals to get on the board, as just to 2:40 in the opening frame defenseman Frankie Simonelli fired the puck from the blue line, which rung off the crossbar and forward Nick MacNeil buried the rebound past Walleye goaltender Cal Heeter to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead. It was MacNeil's first goal of the year. MacNeil's first period would continue, as he would strike again with 7:21 left in the period to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead going into intermission. Both Aaron Harstad and Jeff DiNallo would earn assists on the goal, the second of the year for both. Late in the period Admirals defenseman Gabriel Verpaelst dropped the gloves with Walleye's Evan Rankin after an A.J. Jenkins boarding minor in the Admirals zone. This was Verpaelst's third fight in four games. Despite the Admirals early 2-0, the Walleye would dominate the second frame of the game. Former Admiral Jared Nightingale put Toledo on the board by putting the puck past Admirals goaltender Eetu Laurikainen to cut the Admirals lead in half. Dane Waters and Kyle Bonis both assisted on Nightingale's goal and for Bonis, it was his nine point through six games. Then with 2:25 remaining in the second, Toledo's Simon Denis distributed the puck to Shane Berschbach who then worked it to Jacob MacDonald who buried it over the shoulder of Laurikainen to tie the game up 2-2. The score would remain tied knotted up all the way through the third period, eventually causing the two sides to head to overtime. In the extra period the Spink twins would work their connection to polish off the Admirals as Tyson Spink set up Tylor Spink who would rifle it past the Admirals Finnish netminder to give Toledo the victory. This was the third straight game the Walleye went into extra time, picking up wins in all three and second that the Spink twins can be found as a direct result to a win. The two sides will face each other again tomorrow night at 7:15 PM.
