Admirals Finally Earn First Home Victory

NORFOLK, VA. - The Norfolk Admirals (2-8-3-0) finally earned their first home victory on Friday night, taking down the Idaho Steelheads (8-4-2-0) 4-3 in overtime. Sam Noreau drew first blood for the Admirals nearly ten minutes into the opening period. Domenic Alberga won a faceoff in the Admirals zone, and within seconds John Dunbar teed up a one-time for Noreau at the other end of the ice to make it 1-0 Norfolk. However, the Steelheads would strike back with 2:48 left in the period. Miro Karjalainen fired a shot that went off the pads of netminder Connor Knapp and Anthony Luciani buried for the rebound from the circles for Idaho to tie the game at 1-1. After a scoreless middle period, Jaedon Descheneau put the Admirals back in the lead 1:38 into the third. Zach Pochiro won a draw in Idaho's zone, then Josh Brittain set up #74 with a feed and the Admirals took the lead 2-1. Just 1:33 after Descheneau's tally, Domenic Alberga followed suit, extending the Admirals lead to 3-1. The Maple, Ontario native deflected a shot from the point coming off the tape of Aaron Harstad for his third of season and third of the night for the Ads. The Steelheads would get two of their own in the third though, starting off with Jefferson Dahl’s goal at the 9:20 mark. Dahl had three points for the visitors on Wednesday night, thus extending his series production to four. Idaho then tied the game up with 5:56 left, 3-3. Rob Linsmayer quickly set up a play for Travis Walsh as he rifled in a shot from the point to send the game into overtime. Despite falling in the extra frame three times already this season, the Admirals changed their fate on Friday thanks to newcomer Brodie Dupont. Dupont earned his first as an Admiral by slamming the puck past Steelheads netminder Branden Komm in tight after an Idaho turnover. Alberga would earn the only helper on the tally, his third point of the evening in the winning effort. The Admirals will be back in action against the Steelheads again tomorrow night at 7:15 PM.
