Admirals Insider 2.0 - Those Extra Five Minutes

NORFOLK, VA. - It's Monday and there's three home games this week. Let's get to work.

THIS PAST WEEK IN ADMIRALS HOCKEY (November 7 - November 14)

5-4 OTL vs. Manchester4-3 OTL vs. Atlanta

Friday night the Admirals welcomed the Manchester Monarchs to Scope, a team that was 3-0 on the road heading in. Nick MacNeil gave the home side an early lead but Manchester bounced back just moments later courtesy of Corey Ward. However before intermission arrived, Jaedon Descheneau jammed and jammed away to bury one past Jack Flinn to put the Admirals up 2-1 after one. Not quite halfway through the second period the Admirals found themselves up 4-1 thanks to firsts from Paul Rodrigues and Aaron Harstad. The gang was in the drivers seat. Fast forward to the final buzzer and that same crew is skating off the ice on the wrong side of a 5-4 overtime game. Quentin Shore spearheaded the comeback effort for the Monarchs, including the game-tying goal with 59.1 seconds remaining and Alexx Privitera would close the deal in bonus time beating Connor Knapp.

Less than 24 hours later a new opponent was in town but the end result was the same. Trevor Mingoia struck twice in the first period, exactly 30 seconds apart to set the Admirals back 2-0. John Kurtz made his mark felt early in the second by dropping the gloves with Patrick McCadden, a scrap that Kurtz came out of the undoubted winner. Unfortunately, Atlanta's lead grew to 3-0 a few moments later but 26 seconds after that deficit became' big blueiner Adam Phillips earned his first of the season with a rip from the point. #72's goal began a snowball effect because John Dunbar recorded a highlight reel marker to end the second and Sam Noreau got his first as well to start the third. Unable to get another before closing time, the Admirals headed to extra time and there again fell.

LOOKING AHEAD: (November 15 - November 21)

The Idaho Steelheads are in-town to conclude the Admirals second longest home-stand of the year with games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Entering at 7-5-1, the Western Conference foes have 15 points and 42 goals scored, both tied with the Colorado Eagles for tops in the Mountain Division. Undoubtedly another test for the Admirals, Idaho is familiar with playing three-game sets too. The past three weeks for the Steelheads have all been three games in four days, taking two wins in each series.

Special teams will be a matchup to watch as Idaho comes to the eastern shores with the second best power play in all of the ECHL (24.0%). However, they'll be going against an Admirals penalty kill that ranks fourth, operating at an 88.6% clip.
