NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals have signed defenseman Travis Armstrong ahead of Tuesday's game in Adirondack.
Armstrong, 26, began this season with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the Southern Professional Hockey League. The 6'5" - 216 lbs. blue liner had one assist through 13 games, along with 25 penalty minutes.
Hailing from Smiths Falls, Ontario, Armstrong has 11 games of ECHL experience. In 2014-15 he dressed four games with the Kalamazoo Wings after completing a successful four-year career at Finlandia University, a Division III NCAA program. His junior and senior season he was the program's captain.
Last season Armstrong appeared in seven contests with the Brampton Beast after being a force for the Louisiana IceGators in 50 games. The IceGators, the same organization Admirals equipment manager David Roper and athletic trainer Koryd Lavimoniere worked for, received twelve points from Armstrong, along with 67 penalty minutes.
This summer, the left handed blast was selected first overall by Roanoke in the SPHL expansion draft.
Armstrong will wear #22 and is expected to play this evening. Puck drop is set for 7 P.M. in Glens Falls as the team takes on the Adirondack Thunder.
