GREENVILLE, SC. - Norfolk Admirals goaltender Steven Summerhays is headed to the next level, signing a professional tryout contract with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League on Saturday.
Summerhays, 26, is on the way to Charlotte, North Carolina to meet his new team ahead of tonight's contest, where the Monsters will take on the Charlotte Checkers at 6 PM EST. Summerhays becomes the fifth Admiral this season to get the call-up, joining Eetu Laurikainen, Alex Ranger, Frankie Simonelli and Jaedon Descheneau.
While Summerhays is en route north, the Admirals are expected to sign an emergency backup goaltender of their own for tonight's contest against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.Puck drop is set for 7 PM at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena and you can listen to the bout on 102.1 FM The Tide, the official radio station of the Admirals.
