NORFOLK, VA. – The Norfolk Admirals traded the rights to Brodie Dupont to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits in exchange for forward Trevor Gerling and future considerations, the clubs announced on Thursday afternoon.
Dupont, 30, is currently on a loan with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League. The Condors are in control of his rights through the duration of the AHL season, however, upon conclusion of their campaign and he returns to the ECHL, he would be property of the Swamp Rabbits.
The former #7 of the Admirals will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Gerling, 26, is in his first full season in the ECHL and recorded 27 points in 53 games with Greenville. The 6’0” – 201 lbs. winger played four seasons at the University of Connecticut before playing last season with the Edinburgh Capitals of the Elite Ice Hockey League, the top level of professional hockey in the United Kingdom.
The native of Tacoma, Washington had seven points in the Swamp Rabbits eight most recent games and placed 24 shots on goal during that span.
Gerling will report to the Admirals immediately and is expected to make his team debut on Sunday when the team plays the Manchester Monarchs.
Norfolk will take on the Elmira Jackals this evening in Elmira at 7:05. The game will be available to watch on ECHL.TV, as well as at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach. Fans can also listen to the game on 102.1 FM The Tide, the official radio station of the team.
