NORFOLK, VA. – The Norfolk Admirals, proud new ECHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators, announced the signing of forward Ben Murphy for the 2017-18 season Thursday.
Murphy, 25, recorded 25 points in 49 games with the Admirals after being acquired from Tulsa via trade in December.
“I developed a great relationship with Coach Ftorek last season and that really made me want to come back,” the Duxbury, MA native said. “Playing for him gave me a homey feeling and ultimately I came to the conclusion that Norfolk seemed like the right fit.”
Last year was the 6’0” – 201 lbs. right-handed shot’s rookie campaign after a successful four-year stint at Bowling Green State University.
“Robbie holds his guys to a winning standard. He doesn’t just show up, punch the ticket and go home,” Murphy continued. “He makes it clear he puts his time in and takes it to the extreme. He respects us, respects our efforts and more importantly helps us grow as individuals.”
Murphy now joins Alex Pompeo and goaltender Jamie Murray as the three announced players for the upcoming campaign.
“I learned a lot last season and I’m looking forward to developing into more of that power forward type this year. I want to be finishing more checks, winning battles down low and I want my teammates to know Ben’s going to be around the net and tipping pucks.”
Ben and the Admirals will open the season in Idaho on October 13 and their first game at Scope is slated for Friday, October 27.
