NORFOLK, VA. – The Norfolk Admirals, proud new ECHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators, announced the signing of forward Tommy Schutt today.
Schutt, 24, is entering his first professional season after a strong four-year career with Quinnipiac University. The 6’0” – 187 lbs. forward won an ECAC Championship with the team in 2015-16 while also serving as an alternate captain.
“I would describe myself as a strong two-way player, I take pride in playing in the defensive as a forward and playing both ends of the ice. With that being said, I also like to make plays in the attacking end and contributing on the offensive side of the puck as well,” the upcoming rookie said.
To conclude the 2016-17 season, Schutt had the opportunity to play a trio of games with the Manchester Monarchs, getting his feet wet in the pro game.
“That was a really positive experience for me. I knew I wanted to try and get some action in and I’m really glad I was able to because it allowed me to get familiar with the pace of play at the ECHL level. It’s obviously difference from college hockey but I’m confident that I have what it takes and I’m looking forward to proving it,” Schutt continued.
Hailing from Chanhassen, MN, Schutt was a stand out at Minnetonka High and with Lincoln in the United States Hockey League.
“For me, this year is about making a positive impact for the team and helping earn a few wins. Naturally it’s everyone’s goal to develop and hopefully earn a call up but that comes secondary in comparison to what I hope I can do for the team as a whole.”
Tommy and the Admirals kick off the 2017-18 season in Idaho against the Steelheads on October 13 before the team’s home opener on October 27 at Scope against the South Carolina Stingrays.
