Everblades Comeback, Top Admirals 4-3

Norfolk, VA.- Norfolk led in the third but Florida completed a three-goal comeback to take a 4-3 victory on Wednesday night.

The Admirals became the first team in the ECHL to score on multiple penalty shots this season with Darik Angeli’s second period penalty shot goal. Angeli netted two points (1g, 1a) in the loss. Grant Besse’s eighth goal of the season kept the Wisconsin alum in third place among all rookies in goals

After a scoreless first period the Everblades struck first just 0:16 into the middle frame. A two-on-one sprung Michael Kirkpatrick who popped off a quick shot into the top right corner, giving the Everblades the 1-0 lead. Midway through the period the Admirals struck to draw even. After being hauled down on a break-away Darik Angeli was awarded a penalty shot. The forward patiently walked down into the slot before wristing a shot five-hole to tie the game 1-1. Five minutes later the Admirals would take their first lead of the game. With the puck behind the net Kenton Helgesen centered a pass to Angeli right in front. Angeli tapped the puck right back to Helgesen who quickly put the puck into an open net mouth, giving Norfolk a 2-1 lead after the second period.

In the third period the Admirals ran the lead to 3-1 just under eight minutes into the frame. Grant Besse wrapped the puck around to the right corner and slammed it past the pad of Callum Booth for the forwards’ eighth of the season. Florida answered back immediately cutting the lead to 3-2. Brett Bulmer wristed a shot into the top right corner of the net past Reichenbach. As the power play the Everblades knotted the game up. Nelson Armstrong took a shot from the point that kicked out off the pad of Reichenbach. Stephen MacAulay quickly gathered the rebound and tapped it home. Two and a half minutes later the Everblades finished the comeback as Joe Cox one-timed a shot home from the high slot past Reichenbach. The Everblades skated into Thanksgiving with a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Admirals.

Reichenbach, making his third straight start, stopped 43 of 47 shots in the loss. Callum Booth made 25 saves in the victory.

Norfolk finished the night 0-for-5 on the man-advantage, while Florida was 0-for-3. Florida outshot the Admirals 47-28 on the night.

The Admirals and Everblades finish up the three game series with games Friday and Saturday.
