Game Day: Ads and Blades Wrap Up Three-Game Set

Last Time Out:

The Admirals and Everblades played to a scoreless first period for the second consecutive night, but a pair of goals in the second and third periods pushed the Everblades to a 4-1 victory. Florida’s Joe Cox ended up with the game-winning goal for the second time in two games, while Brodie Dupont and Darik Angeli connected for the Admirals lone tally of the night, only 0:37 into the third period. Netminder Ty Reichenbach, making his fourth consecutive start, recorded 39 saves on 42 shots.

Head to Head:

Florida has taken each of the first two matchups between the teams, both at Scope Arena, running their record in the all-time series to 7-2-0-0. After Saturday’s contest the Admirals and Everblades will not face off again until March 21-24. The teams will play the remaining three games of the season during another three-in-four stretch.

Both Callum Booth and Martin Ouellette have appeared once against the Admirals claiming a victory. Forward Stephen MacAulay has notched four points (1g, 3a) against the Admirals, while Michael Kirkpatrick has scored each night on his was to three points (2g, 1a). The Everblades have three players (Kirkpatrick , Brett Bulmer, Joe Cox) who have scored a pair of goals against the Admirals.

Norfolk’s Thomas Frazee skated in four games against the Everblades as a member of the Atlanta Gladiators. In those four games Frazee tallied two goals and an assist. His three points leads the Admirals, although the forward has not notched a point over the last two games against Florida. Darik Angeli (1g, 2a) is the only other Admiral with multiple points against Florida. Ty Reichenbach has started each game making 82 saves on 89 shots faced.

Hitting the Road:

Norfolk will hit the road for an extended road trip for the first time since the first five games of the season when the team heads to Jacksonville next week. The upcoming five-game road trip is one of four five-game swings on the Norfolk schedule this season.

After beginning the season on the road for five games the Admirals have had a pair of six-game home stands in the last month. Those home stands have been separated by only a pair of games, one in Brampton and one in Wheeling. The month of December is spent mostly on the road for the Admirals as the team has only four home games during the month. After the upcoming road trip the Admirals will play the remaining five-game road trips Jan. 7-13, and Jan. 23-30. Both trips begin in Greenville, SC against the Swamp Rabbits.

Fisticuffs:

Through the first 18 games of the season Norfolk has had nine fighting majors. The nine majors is the sixth fewest in the ECHL despite having played as many as five more games than other teams.

With his first period fight Jordan Abt became the first player to record multiple fighting majors this season. Abt, who fought for the second straight night, is the eighth different Admiral to drop the mitts this season. The defenseman had one career fight heading into the three-game series with the Everblades.  Florida has 11 majors this season and ranks 14th in penalty minutes this season.

Starting Strong:

Forward Darik Angeli continued his strong start to the season on Friday night notching an assit on Brodie Dupont’s third period tally. Angeli, 27, has averaged just under a point per game since joining the Admirals in early November. The Lakewood, Colorado native has recorded seven points (4g, 3a) in his first eight games with the Admirals. Before joining Norfolk Angeli had scored three goals in five games with Rapid City. Last season Angeli capped off the year by netting 20 points (10g, 10a) in 36 games with the Orlando Solar Bears.
