Admirals Collect Point, Fall 4-3 in OT

March 11, 2018

Manchester, NH– Norfolk got goals from three different skaters on Sunday afternoon and collected a point but came up just short, falling to Manchester 4-3 in overtime on Sunday afternoon.

Norfolk (23-32-6-1) scored twice in 0:43 in the first period to open a 2-0 lead but the Monarchs clawed back from a pair of two-goal deficits in route to the overtime victory.

Domenic Alberga recorded a multipoint game for the Admirals netting two points (1g, 1a). The Norfolk power play found the back of the net twice, finishing the night two-for-seven. Norfolk is now 6-6 in games decided in overtime.

The Admiral power play got the visitors on the board just 3:20 into the opening period. Darik Angeli, sitting on the left post sent the puck to the back door for Michael Young who redirected it past Evan Cowley, giving the Admirals a 1-0 lead. Forty-three seconds later the Admirals struck again. Back on the attack, Domenic Alberga stopped a few feet inside the blueline and connected with Tommy Schutt who one-touched the puck past Cowley doubling the Norfolk lead. Manchester answered in quick fashion as Spencer Watson got his team on the board just 0:32 seconds later. The 2-1 lead would hold through the end of the first period.

With the power play to start the second the Admirals wasted no time pushing the lead back to two goals. On the first shift of the period Domenic Alberga collected the rebound of a TJ Melancon slap shot on the edge of the crease and sent it to the back of the net, putting Norfolk up 3-2. Just like the first period, however the Monarchs answered back immediately. Colton Saucerman netted his fifth goal of the season just 0:23 later.

Trailing 3-2 late in the second the Monarchs knotted the game up before heading into the second intermission. Spencer Watson made a long pass that broke Jordan LaValle-Smotherman into the Norfolk zone on a break-away. The Monarchs leading scorer tucked a back-hand past Jamie Murray, tying the game at 3-3.

The tie would remain unbroken through the end of regulation, forcing overtime. In the extra period Cory Ward granted the Monarchs the extra point, as his shot from the point snuck past Jamie Murray.

Murray finished the night with 39 saves on 43 shots, while Evan Cowler stopped 30 of 33 in the victory.

The Admirals return home on Friday night as they host the Greenville Swamp Rabbits for the first of two games.
