Estero, FL. – TJ Moore netted a power play goal late, but it wasn’t enough as the Admirals fell 4-1 on Friday night.
Moore netted a power play goal with less than a minute left to snap Martin Ouellete’s shutout, and give the forward his second career goal.
After a predominately scoreless first period the Everblades got on the board in the final minute of the period. Mitchell Heard sent a quick pass towards the back door and connected with Joe Cox who just had to tap the puck to sneak it past Jamie Murray. Cox’s goal with 28.7 seconds left in the opening frame was the lone tally in the period, giving Florida a 1-0 lead after the first.
In the second the Everblades power play doubled the Florida lead. One night removed from his first professional goal Derek Sheppard took a feed at the point and blasted a slap shot past Jamie Murray at the 5:15 mark of the period. Seven minutes later the Everblades added to the lead once again. After Matt Berry’s wrap around attempt was foiled Stephen Lorentz corralled a loose puck in the high slot. The Florida forward wristed a shot through traffic and beat Murray. Lorentz’s tenth of the season pushed the Florida lead to 3-0 at the end of the second period.
Less than two minutes into the third period the Everblades added to the lead once again. Stephen MacAulay found himself with a wide-open net in front after a scramble behind the net. MacAulay quickly tapped the puck into the net, giving Florida a 4-0 lead early in the third. The Admirals broke the shutout on the man-advantage with less than a minute to play in the third. TJ Moore, settled on the back door, gathered a loose puck and buried it past Ouellette to get Norfolk on the board and cut the lead to 4-1. Moore’s goal was all the offense the Admirals would muster as the Everblades topped the Admirals 4-1.
Jamie Murray finished the night with 34 saves on 38 shots, while Martin Ouellete stopped 20 of 21.
Norfolk and Florida wrap up the season series on Saturday night at Germain Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm.
