Norfolk, VA. – Ty Reichenbach led the way for the Admirals stopping 46 of 47 shots as Norfolk clipped the Wings 2-1.
A goaltenders’ duel carried on for the first 38 minutes of play Saturday night before either team was able to snap the scoring draught. Norfolk was the first team to get on the board with just under two minutes left in the middle stanza. TJ Melancon backed his way across the blue line towards center ice before unleashing a slap shot that blitzed through a mass of bodies in front of the net and past Joel Martin. It was the 37th shot of the night that found its way to the back of the net, breaking the ice. TJ Moore picked up a secondary assist on the goal, giving the forward points in each of his last four games. Kalamazoo was not going into the intermission scoreless though. With less than a minute left in the middle frame Justin Taylor stood in front of Ty Reichenbach and tipped a Brendan Bradley slap shot into the top corner, evening the score at 1-1. After forty minutes of play the two netminders combined to stop 42 of 44 shots.
In the third period the goaltenders dual continued. Just over halfway thru the final frame Alex Pompeo capitalized on an opportunity, and gave the Admirals the lead for good. Pompeo stepped out from behind the net and spun towards the net wristing a shot past Martin. Norfolk took the lead with 8:41 to play and Ty Reichenbach shut the door the rest of the way. The Norfolk goaltender stopped all 17 shots he faced in the final frame as the Admirals skated away with a 2-1 victory, snapping a five-game losing streak.
Reichenbach finished the night with 46 saves on 47 shots in the victory.
The Admirals wrap up the home-portion of the regular season on Friday night, April 6 hosting the Reading Royals.
