Glens Falls, NY– The Admirals scored in the third period but were unable to climb out of a three-goal hole as Norfolk fell 4-1 on Saturday night.
Adirondack scored each of the first three goals, giving themselves a 3-0 lead after the second period of play.
In the first period Dylan Olsen got the Thunder on the board. Just after a Thunder power play ended the defenseman took a slap shot that snuck through a screen and past Ty Reichenbach, giving Adirondack a 1-0 lead.
Shane Conacher doubled the lead early in the second period. The Adirondack winge stepped into the offensive zone and wristed a shot from the top of the left circle that beat Reichenbach to the five-hole. Eight minutes later the Adirondack power play got on the board to extend the lead to 3-0. Quick puck movement from the Thunder worked the puck from the left point to Mathieu Brodeur on the right half wall. The Thunder defenseman centered the puck for Tim Harrison who got just enough of the puck to chip it to the back of the net.
The third period saw the Admirals get on the scoreboard once again. Patrick D’Amico connected with Christian Horn, springing the forward loose on a breakaway. Horn pulled the puck to the backhand, flicking a shot past Drew Fielding and snapping the netminder’s shutout. The Admirals were un able to get any closer however as the Thunder notched an empty net goal in the final minute of play to cap the scoring at 4-1.
Ty Reichenbach stopped 34 of 37 shots in the loss, while Drew Fielding stopped 45 of 46 for Adirondack.
Norfolk concludes the three-game road trip tomorrow afternoon in Manchester taking on the Monarchs.
