NORFOLK, VA – The Norfolk Admirals are pleased to announce that the team’s 2018 Training Camp roster is comprised of players representing ten countries. Players hailing from the United States, Canada, Austria, Switzerland, Latvia, Sweden, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and the Ukraine will all head to Norfolk to compete for a spot on the Opening Night roster. Training Camp opens on Friday, September 28. The complete training camp roster will be announced at a later date.
Several of these players have played on their respective country’s national teams. The roster features players signed to standard player contracts (SPC) and amateur tryout agreements (ATO), while others are under contract with the team’s new affiliates the Arizona Coyotes (NHL) and the Tucson Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL).
“Recruiting is a year-round process,” said Admirals Head Coach Robbie Ftorek. “We had a good second half last season, and we look to build off that momentum heading into the upcoming year. We are excited to bring back some key players from last season, while adding several proven players from across the ECHL and the college ranks as well. Additionally, we have expanded our recruiting to a global scale and will be bringing in players from all over the world who want to be part of what we are doing here.”
“There’s a lot to be excited about as we head into our 30th Anniversary Season,” said Admirals President Trent Ferguson. “The organization as a whole is heading in the right direction both on and off the ice. Off the ice, we have already seen an 11-percent increase in season ticket sales. On the ice, we have players from all over the globe that have expressed their interest to become part of the tradition of Admirals Hockey. It is going to be an exciting and very competitive training camp and we welcome our fans to come check it out.”
The team will open its 2018 Training Camp on Friday, September 28. The team will take part in several scrimmages during the opening weekend of camp (Sept. 28-30). The following is the scrimmage schedule:
Friday, September 28, 6:00 p.m. – Scrimmage 1Saturday, September, 29, 10:00 a.m. – Scrimmage 2Sunday, September 30, 10:00 a.m. – Scrimmage 3** All scrimmages will take place at Norfolk Scope and are free to the public.
