Admirals Welcome Ryan McGinnis to Coaching Staff

NORFOLK, VA – The Norfolk Admirals, proud member of the ECHL, are excited to announce that they have hired former Kelly Cup Champion-winning defenseman Ryan McGinnis (Flint, MI) as the club’s Assistant Coach. McGinnis joins Head Coach Rod Taylor as full-time members of the Admirals coaching staff.

McGinnis, 32, is set to join the Admirals after spending the past two seasons behind the bench as assistant coach with the ECHL’s Indy Fuel.

“I want to thank both Patrick and Rod for welcoming me into the Admirals family”, stated McGinnis. “It is clear we align on many fronts; most importantly, on the notion of hard work and dedication. These characteristics will be at the core of what we do each and every day. I look forward to being a part of building a positive and winning culture so both the Norfolk Admirals organization and our fans will be proud”.

As a player, a 2005 6th round pick of the Los Angeles Kings, McGinnis enjoyed a five-year professional career spanning the AHL and ECHL. After five seasons playing major junior in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the defenseman went on to post 13 goals and 77 assists over 187 ECHL contests with the Florida Everblades, Kalamazoo Wings, and South Carolina Stingrays, helping the Everblades to a Kelly Cup championship in 2012. In addition, McGinnis skated in 101 AHL games during stints with the Albany River Rats (08-09), Manitoba Moose (09-10, 10-11), Syracuse Crunch (11-12), and Norfolk Admirals (09-10, 17 games), McGinnis recorded 1 goal and 12 assists.

“We are very happy to welcome Ryan McGinnis to the Norfolk Admirals coaching staff for the 2019-20 season”, stated head coach Rod Taylor. “Ryan adds experience as a former player and ECHL Kelly Cup champion to the team.  As the former assistant coach for ECHL’s Indy Fuel, Ryan brings a lot to the table to help push the Admirals towards a playoff championship.  He brings in a background of playing and coaching at a high level which will be advantageous as we build the right culture here within the Admirals organization”.

The Admirals will open their 31st season of hockey at the Norfolk Scope on October 11th against the Florida Everblades. Season tickets are available now!
