Norfolk, VA - The Norfolk Admirals, proud members of the ECHL, are proud to announce that they have signed local product and former Hampton Roads Whaler forward Ryan Salkeld for the 2019-2020 ECHL season.
Salkeld, 27, recorded 68 points in the 2018-2019 season (29g, 39a) in 62 games played with the Huntsville Havoc in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), helping lead the team to the SPHL championship.
The 6’1, 170lbs Portsmouth, VA native grew up playing and developing his game at the Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex with the Hampton Roads Whalers. He ranks among the Whalers all time leaders in games played, goals, assists, and points. After wrapping up his junior career with the Whalers during the 2011-12 season, Salkeld committed to NCAA D3 Buffalo State, spending 4 seasons with the Bengals, posting 73 points (34g, 39a) in 92 career games before starting his pro career with the Norfolk Admirals in 2015-16, spending 13 games with his hometown team, posting 3 goals, 2 assists, and a plus 5 rating.
Salkeld has spent the last 3 seasons in the SPHL with Fayetteville, Macon, Mississippi, and Huntsville, posting 110 points (48g, 62a) in 121 SPHL games. This past season in Huntsville, Salkeld finished the regular season 1st in the SPHL in goals (28) and 3rd in the SPHL in total points (62).
