GAME STORY
NORFOLK, VA -- Honoring the city of Newport News in the City Series, the Admirals donned Newport News jerseys for the second straight night. The Admirals were able to score in a hurry, cashing in on a goal from Liam MacDougall just 42 seconds into the game, the quickest goal so far this season. A Denis Smirnov boarding penalty with 15:11 left in the first period set up a power play for the Railers. with four seconds remaining on the man advantage, Brent Beaudoin found Jimmy Lambert, who put he puck past Michael Bullion to tie it up at one.
Play resumed for the second period until the game was stopped with 18:01 remaining due to issues with the ice. The game was delayed for over an hour before the two teams took the ice again. Following the delay, Tag Bertuzzi scored for the second straight game, helping the Admirals regain the lead with 8:16 remaining in the second period. The lead was short-lived, however, with the Railers tying the game at two on a goal from Nolan Vesey. Another Admirals penalty with eight seconds left in the period gave the Railers a power play, which they capitalized on, and Blake Christensen scored with two seconds to go in the period.
The Admirals were able to draw a few penalties early in the third and were able to take advantage on the man advantage. Ryan Foss fired a shot from the right side of the goal, which deflected off of Railers goaltender Ken Appleby, and Danny Katic collected the rebound to tie the game up at three with 14:07 to go.
