Norfolk is coming off a three-game series against the Trois-Rivières Lions in which it earned one point, scoring seven goals and allowing 16. Greensboro (1-2-1-0) earned its first win Sunday, a 3-2 overtime victory over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

The Papp-Gavin Connection
Forwards Will Gavin and Kristof Papp continue to be a dynamic duo, helping the Admirals score three goals in four of their first six games. Gavin has three goals and four assists for seven points, already matching his total from the 2025-26 season with the Kansas City Mavericks, when he had four goals and three assists in 38 games. Papp has picked up where he left off after a 20-goal, 46-point rookie campaign in 2025-26, recording two goals and three assists. Gavin and Papp have played on the same line since the season opener and have connected on four goals.
30-Second OZ
Admirals captain Brandon Osmundson has made a habit of scoring at the start and end of periods to open his 2026-27 campaign. All three of his goals have come within the first or last 37 seconds of a period. His first was an empty-netter with 33 seconds left in the third period of the season opener. His second came 35 seconds into the game Sunday, Oct. 18, against the Atlanta Gladiators that same weekend. He added his third Sunday in Game 3 of the home-opening weekend, scoring with 36 seconds left in the first period. Two of Osmundson's three goals have come on redirections of shots from defenseman Will Magnuson.
Feeling Blue
Including Magnuson's two assists, Norfolk's blue line has contributed nine points (three goals, six assists) through the first six games. Defenseman Ryan Gagnon leads the group with one goal and two assists, including a two-assist game in the season opener. Fellow defensemen Brehdan Engum and Holden Wale have each scored a goal, with Wale's coming on the power play on Sunday. In addition, returning defenseman Andrew McLean added an assist during the home-opening weekend.
Down to the Wire
The Admirals have played plenty of tight games to start the season. Norfolk has been tied or within one goal for 268 of the 367 minutes it has played across six games, including overtime. Three games have been decided by one goal, four were tied after the first period and two were tied after the second. Norfolk enters the week having played more games than any other ECHL team and has scored first in four of them.
Scoring Woes
The Gargoyles enter the series struggling to put the puck in the net. They have yet to score three goals in regulation and have been shut out once, and no Greensboro player has reached three points. Goaltending has carried the load, however, as Ruslan Khazheyev and Yegor Velmakin have made two starts apiece and combined for a 2.65 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.
