ELMIRA, NY. - The Norfolk Admirals picked up their first win of the 2016-17 campaign on Saturday night, defeating the Elmira Jackals by a score of 2-0. Goaltenders Eetu Laurikainen and Andy Iles were the story through 47 minutes of play, but at that mark the Admirals got the first theoretical monkey off of their back by notching their first power play tally of the season. With Casey Thrush of the Jackals in the box for tripping, it was Domenic Alberga getting the red light to flicker when he sent a pass towards the front of the net that wound up bouncing off of a Jackal defender and over the red line. Jeff DiNallo and Frankie Simonelli received assists on the goal, both their first of the season as well. The Jackals applied some pressure in the minutes following Alberga's first of the year, even going to the extent of pulling Iles in favor of the extra attacker with just over a minute on the clock. However, the double-edged sword backfired and Maxime St-Cyr filled the empty four-by-six for his first as an Admiral and first of the season with just 9.3 seconds remaining. Admirals netminder Eetu Laurikainen earned his first ECHL shutout by stopping all 24 sent his way en route to the Admirals win. The Admirals will now return back to Norfolk to prepare for next weekend's set against the Toledo Walleye. Tickets for Friday and Saturday night's game are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com as well as at the Norfolk Scope box office.
