Norfolk, VA.— Ty Reichenbach took a scoreless goaltenders duel into the third period, but a pair of third period goals were the difference as the Admirals fell 2-0 on Saturday night.
Norfolk was shut out for the second time this season in the loss.
Despite six combined power plays through the first 40 minutes neither team was able to break the ice, as Norfolk and Reading headed into the second intermission scoreless.
The game stayed scoreless until just over the midway point of the third period. Riding an eight-game point streak, Reading’s Matt Willows cut towards the center of the ice and took a wrist shot that found its way to the top right corner of the net, breaking the deadlock. Willows goal gave the forward points in each of his last nine games. It was the eventual game-winner as Reading would ice the game with an empty net goal with 0:14 left in regulation.
Ty Reichenbach finished the night with 32 saves on 33 shots in the loss. Readings Mark Dekanich notched his second shutout of the season, stopping all 22 shots he faced.
The Admirals return to action next weekend as they host the Adirondack Thunder for three games in three days.
