NORFOLK, VA. -- The Norfolk Admirals, proud ECHL affiliates of the Carolina Hurricanes, won their third straight game on Thursday night, as they defeated the Orlando Solar Bears, 3-1.
Orlando came into the game significantly shorthanded with many of their players being called up to the American Hockey League. Brad Barone made the start in goal, while Beck Warm started his fourth game of the season for Norfolk.
The Admirals came out firing on all cylinders in the first period and they would get the game's first goal. Daniel Brickley, who came into the night tied for second amongst ECHL DMen in points, scored his third of the season to make it 1-0. Chris Ordoobodi got the lone assist on the goal.
With the Admirals in the drivers seat, Orlando stopped all their momentum when Michael Brodzinski scored a power play goal at the 14:47 mark of the period to tie it up at one.
In the second period, the Admirals continued the attack on the shorthanded Solar Bears. Ordoobodi, who was one of the three players who made the team out of Training Camp on a tryout contract, scored his first ECHL goal at the 12:36 mark of the second period to make it 2-1 Norfolk.
That would be the goal that went into the books at the game-winning goal, as Chase Lang scored his fourth of the season just 62 seconds into the final period. His innocent shot on goal snuck through the five-hole of Barone to make it 3-1.
That is how the night would finish and the Admirals won their third straight game. Warm finished the night with 23 saves and picked up his third win on the year. Barone made 26 saves in the setback.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 7:30 PM at Norfolk Scope.
