NORFOLK, VA. – The Norfolk Admirals, proud new ECHL affiliate of the Nashville Predators, announced the signing of defenseman Jordan Abt for the 2017-18 season Wednesday.
Abt, 26, recorded six points in 10 games with the Admirals after concluding his collegiate playing career at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in the spring.
“I was actually quite happy with the transition that I was able to make from college to the pro game. Playing for Robbie was enjoyable because he makes things so easy. He sees what I need to work on, points it out and then it’s up to me from there,” the latest signing said.
Prior to turning pro, the 6’0” – 175 lbs. recorded 101 points in 108 games while also accumulating 108 penalty minutes in his senior season.
“I’d like to think I have the tools to be a physical player,” Abt continued. “If the situation arises where I need to stand up for a teammate I can definitely do that and if that’s the role that’s asked of me, I’d be happy to do it.”
Abt now joins Alex Pompeo, Ben Murphy, Jamie Murray and Marc Hetnik as the five announced players for the upcoming 2017–18 campaign.
“I definitely enjoyed my time in Norfolk in the spring, which was what made me want to come back for a full season. Robbie and Peter are two experienced guys and that makes me want to come in and work extra hard.”
Jordan and the Admirals will open the season in Idaho on October 13 and their first game at Scope is slated for Friday, October 27.
