Norfolk, VA.- South Carolina got the first four games as they stung the Admirals 5-2 on Saturday night.
Forward Grant Besse pushed his point streak to five-games with an assist on Brodie Dupont’s second period goal.
One night after Brady Vail scored a first period hat trick, South Carolina’s Marcus Perrier followed up by netting a pair of his own. The forwards’ two goals were the only tallies in the period as South Carolina led 2-0 after the first twenty minutes.
In the second South Carolina got two more before the Admirals were able to get on the scoreboard. Brodie Dupont corralled a rebound, walked to the center of the ice and ripped a slap shot past Jeff Jakaitis to cut the lead to 4-1. Dupont’s tally was the last of the period, leaving Norfolk trailing 4-1 after two.
In the third the teams traded goals. Paul Geiger extended the Rays lead on the power play, only 2:31 into the third period. Just over halfway through the period Alex Pompeo gathered a loose puck and score Norfolk’s second and final goal of the game. As the horn sounded South Carolina completed a weekend sweep with a 5-2 victory.
Netminder Ty Reichenbach notched 31 saves on 36 shots in the loss. Jakaitis made 17 saves on 19 shots.
Norfolk continues a five-game home-stand with games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday against Manchester.
