Norfolk, VA.– The Admirals surrendered three straight goals as the Icemen snapped the Admirals seven-game home winning streak, topping the Admirals 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Domenic Alberga netted an assist on the Admirals lone goal, pushing his point streak to four-games.
Tanner Eberle broke a deadlock in the first period, giving Jacksonville the 1-0 lead. Eberle collected a rebound in the slot and sent a shot through the five-hole, giving the Icemen the early lead and the only goal in the first period.
The second period, like the first, only saw a single goal scored as well. Standing on the back door, Eli Lichtenwald took a pass from Jimmy Lodge and after a couple of attempts managed to jam the puck home, giving Jacksonville a 2-0 lead. Jacksonville’s lead grew again early in the third period. Elgin Pearce cut across the slot and just threw a puck towards the front of the net. A few bounces and redirections allowed the puck to go past Reichenbach, and to the back of the net. The goal was credited to Pearce, his 22nd of the season.
Three minutes later the Admirals cut the lead to two goals. The rebound of an Alex Pompeo one-timer bounced out to Domenic Alberga who sent a one-timer of his own towards the net. Max Cook got a stick on it in front of the net tipping the puck into the net. Norfolk kept the Icemen within reach until the final minute when Mark Ustaski notched an empty net goal, giving the Icemen the 4-1 victory.
The loss snapped a seven-game home-winning streak for the Admirals. Ty Reichenbach stopped 27 of 30 shots faced in the loss, while Austin Lotz stopped 27 of 28 shots.
Norfolk returns to action on Wednesday night taking on the Florida Everblades.
