Admirals record through nine games: 3-5-0-1, seven points, fourth in the North Division
Feeling Young
Admirals forward Justin Young has made his presence felt since rejoining Norfolk's lineup in the second week of the season, recording two goals and two assists for four points in five games. The Leduc, Alberta, native signed after the opening weekend for his fourth stint with the team. His 145 games with Norfolk since the 2022-23 season rank sixth on the club in that span, and he has 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points over that stretch.
Magnetic Magnuson
Defenseman Will Magnuson has taken a step forward in his second season with Norfolk and in the ECHL, posting one goal and two assists in nine games. He had three assists and no goals in 49 games in 2025-26, so he has already matched last season's point total and scored his first career goal. Magnuson, Ryan Gagnon, Brehdan Engum and Holden Wale have helped the blue line factor into four goals over the last six games. Norfolk's defensemen have combined for 13 points (four goals, nine assists) this season.
Many Firsts
Magnuson wasn't the only Admiral to reach a milestone on the last homestand. Rookie Michael Citara scored his first career goal, and fellow rookie Dalton Norris earned his first professional point with an assist on that goal. Norfolk's rookies have combined for five points (one goal, four assists) this season. That total includes rookie Brett Pfoh's first pro point in the home opener against the Trois-Rivières Lions. Norfolk has also added to its newcomer group. The Admirals signed forward Carter Korpi for the 2026-27 season on Oct. 29 and acquired forward Keegan McMullen in a trade with the Orlando Solar Bears on Nov. 1. Korpi signed late with Norfolk in 2025-26 after four years at Union College and had two goals and one assist in five games. McMullen joined the Solar Bears late in the 2025-26 season after four seasons at the University of Windsor and had three goals and two assists in nine games. Neither has recorded a point this season.
PK in Bunches
Norfolk enters the week having been shorthanded 48 times, the most in the ECHL. The New Mexico Goatheads are next with 38. The Admirals are tied for the most games played with nine, but they are still averaging more than five shorthanded instances per game. However, the unit has held an 83% success rate, and aside from Saturday's 1-for-5 night against the Greensboro Gargoyles, it has not allowed multiple power-play goals in a game. In addition, Norfolk is 23-for-25 (92%) in games where it has had to kill six or more penalties, including two 6-for-6 performances in the last three games.
Reluctant Royals
The Reading Royals have one of the league's strongest goaltending tandems early in the season. They are tied for second in the ECHL with a 2.17 goals-against average. Netminders Yaniv Perets and Keith Petruzzelli have made three starts apiece and allowed 12 combined goals in six games. Reading also ranks third in the league in shots allowed per game at 23.
First in History
The Admirals and Ironhawks meet for the first time after the Utah Grizzlies changed ownership and relocated to Trenton. The Ironhawks are 2-2-2-0 through six games in their inaugural season. The New York Islanders affiliate has earned points in four straight games (2-0-2-0) after opening the season with two-straight losses.
